Evelyn Glennie: Documentary Segment

This video is a great introduction to how Dame Evelyn Glennie has earned her title as the "world's first solo percussionist". She has and is still inspiring many percussionists, musicians, and people around the world through her dedication. Enjoy :)

  1. Tess,
    What an inspirational video clip.
It just goes to show that when faced with adversity you always have two choices. You can lie down and be miserable, or you can face the challenge with gusto.
In my sport I have seen one legged bike riders ride extreme distances as well or better than able cyclists.
I wonder whether I would have the same tenacity. But I am in awe of those that do.

I am not musical at all, but I appreciate your posts.

  2. Thank you for your comment Hans and yes, Evelyn Glennie is truly inspirational.

Like you I have been inspired by how she had the tenacity and perseverance to pursue percussion and make it her career...to such an extent that she broke barriers and is now recognized as the world's first (and I believe greatest) solo percussionist!

I can also imagine how inspired able bodied cyclists become, when they see a person who has lost a limb riding extreme distances - that would be an effort for anyone to complete.

Here is a very appropriate quote I found in my online travels today:

"A true friend knows your weakness but shows you your strengths,
feels your fears but fortifies your faith,
sees your anxiety but frees your spirit,
recognizes your disabilities but emphasizes your possibilities"

Thanks again for your comment :)
